Such craftmanship from Anthony Jackson on this famous song!! You might think that it’s an obvious basspart, but Anthony really does some wonderful details in his bassline. It’s all about slides; hammer on notes and using 16th notes at a beautiful moment.

Listen for instance at the slides in bars 23; 24; 27and 35. And I like the hammer on notes a lot. The hammer on in bar 41 is my favorite! But he also plays some hammer on notes before playing beautiful 16th notes. Listen for instance at bar 34 and 35. He plays a hammer on in bar 34 and starts(!) the Chorus with a 16th lick. He repeats this lick almost the same in bars 51 and 52.

An other 16th lick which I like very much is in bar 58. Here he plays the sixt note (note = C) of the Eb chord (amongst the 3rd (G) and fifth note (Bb) of the chord). The sixt note is as you might know a very popular note among bassplayers.

I play this song on a Fender Precision 1976 with flatwound strings. Standard tuning E A D G. No effects used except a bit compression and a pre-amp.
