US M42 Chemical Biological Protective Mask

🇺🇲 United States M42 Chemical Biological Protective Mask dated the second week of April 1993 by Mine Safety Appliances Company lot 2G06

The M42 CB mask was standardized in 1987 as a Combat Vehicle Crewman variant of the M40 CB mask, the M42 differs from the standard M40 in that the voicemitter is replaced by an internal M101/AIC microphone voicemitter which would connect to a Nexus JH-055 cable assembly which is seen in the first slide connected to the mask

The full kit for the M42 would consist of an M42 facepiece, a quick doff hood with sewn on second skin, cable assembly, inner faceform, Canister carrier, Canister, carrier, waterproof bag, Clear and Tinted outserts.

There are three different models of the M42, the standard M42 you see here, which is slightly unobtanium, the M42A1 which consists of this facepiece but different accessories, and the M42A2 which features a normal M40A1 facepiece with a clip on mic.

The only actual damage to this mask is a few lacerations on the outlet valve, which I will leave alone for now as it seems super glue does not work with MSA outlet valves

The MSA hose for this mask is dated the fourth week of April 1993 lot 2J05. This hose type is standard for the original M42, it is very similar to the rounded hose on the Experimental XM33 and XM34 CVC and Aircrew masks, which are variants of the XM30 CB masks, the hoses on these are in white rubber.
