Bandai 1/1700 Scale NCC-1701-E build and review.

Another kit from the Bandai Star Trek line the Enterprise E.
For those familiar, this kit is similar to the other Bandai Trek kits in
that it is pre painted and is a snap fit model. No glue is required but
some can be used to add stability when finished.
The model also comes with a display stand which houses 3 AA batteries
and a lighting kit. The lights supplied are the rice bulb type and there are six bulbs with wire on each. Since LED bulbs last much longer, we opted to
build this with the LED's. We used 5mm White bulbs and a 15K resistor
and powered it with a 6 volt power supply.
The paint work on this model is perhaps the best of all the Bandai Kits.
The Aztec effect is all there in great detail along with all of the intricate markings as seen on the studio filming model. Even the registry numbers
are painted on.
Parts are packed perfectly and the instructions are clear and easy to follow.
Since it is a snap fit kit, pay attention to the fit of the parts and some trimming is needed to make sure the gaps are not too big.
Follow the instructions exactly when doing the wiring portion of the build.
There is little room to work in and the lower hull halves will not fit together tightly if you do not route the wires correctly.
The warp Nacelles have the wires running externally along the pylons
to the secondary hull. There are decals supplied which cover these up.
Make sure the wires are tightly pushed down into the slots and the decal will lay nice and flat over them.
When building the base be sure to check that there is power at the top connectors when switched on. It may take a little tweaking of the terminals inside to get that right.

It took about 4 hours to put this one together including adding the LED's.
The ship looks great when finished and is very accurate to the studio model.

We rate this one 8 out of 10.
The only reason its not a 10 is the price is a bit high and there are minor
issues with gaps in the parts that does allow small light leaks to show.
Some extra attention when fitting it and trimming helps this a lot.
If you are a fan of the E you'll be happy with this one.
