ELBAZ DELVES INTO BRIGHTS AT LANVIN
The Paris ready-to-wear shows ended on Sunday with a critically acclaimed display from Lanvin, where designer Alber Elbaz received a standing ovation from critics, who leapt to their feet in applause during the show finale.
His draped toga gowns and ruffled satin cocktail dresses raised a roar of adoration from buyers and critics.
Elbaz spoke to AP Entertainment from backstage before the show, where he spoke of his desire to return to clean lines and simple cuts.
"After last season it was all duchess and big sleeves, I wanted to do something that was so light. I was so hungry for simplicity I was so hungry to see colours and yet I was so hungry to see nude and black and ivory and beige and midnight blue and I wanted to combine both," Elbaz said.
The toga dress was a theme of the Milan collections last week, but Elbaz has developed a distinct vocabulary that wipes out comparisons.
It showed in the metal rings that held together a white linen tunic covered in feathers, or a black satin one-shouldered evening gown with industrial zips at the shoulders and seams.
Feathers also made an appearance in the Lanvin collection, dressing up voluminous satin and silk dresses, in bright red, green and midnight blue.
