60009 & 9466 | A Mainline Rememberance Duo | 2018

With the recent passing of two railway legends, mainline icons LNER A4 60009 'Union of South Africa' and GWR Large Pannier no. 9466 would operate two seperate farewell memorial charters, on respective routes on October 20th, 2018.

Firstly, 'No.9', at the head of 'The Yorkshireman' from Ealing Broadway to York, departs Bedford station on the Midland Mainline with a few slips, carrying a wreath for the late Nigel Dobbing, the former Managing Director of The Railway Touring Company, of which this railtour was advertised and operated by. The return journey would be diesel hauled.

Secondly, and in true style, GWR Large Pannier no. 9466 is seen at the head of the late 'Dennis Howell's Memorial Train', running between Drayton Green and Princes Risborough via West Ruislip, seen attacking the gradient through Saunderton (1in164/179) with it's 3-coach load, and paired with GW 'Prairie' no. 5526 (courtesy of the Chinnor&Princes Risborough Railway), on the final stretch of the outward journey to Chinnor. (This was planned to be her final mainline railtour by former owner Dennis Howells before his sudden passing in August).

Both, who will be dearly missed but also fondly remembered, have made a significant mark in history with regards to steam operations on the mainline in the 21st Century, something many may take for granted.

All shots filmed in Stunning 4K on a Panasonic VX980, with a Takstar SGC-598 Microphone.
