On The Ground with Douglas Murray

During his recent trip to South Africa, world-renowned best-selling author and commentator Douglas Murray spent a day in Soweto exploring the heart of this historic township, its vibrant culture, iconic landmarks, and resilient community. Host and tour guide for day Phumi Mashigo had this to say: “I take every chance to show off my Soweto – so glad I could spend the day showing off and sharing such a thought-provoking conversation at lunch with Douglas Murray and our South African colleagues”. The day included enjoying traditional treats "gemma and scones" at Phumi’s childhood home in Pimville hosted by her welcoming mother Sis’ Gugu. Poignant landmarks were visited including Hector Pieterson Memorial and meeting Hector’s sister Antoinette Sithole who was in that iconic photo when he was shot all those years ago. Lunch in Vilikazi Street and a visit to the Mandela House completed our “Soweto Experience”.
