Intervals is an instrumental project based out of Toronto. Aaron contacted me earlier this year--having parted ways with former bandmates--about contributing to his next record as a session musician. I was effusive of the opportunity, especially after hearing the first batch of demos. Aaron's a drummer himself, so he wrote some great parts; I found myself toeing the line between these and my own. I mostly added nuances, flairs, idiosyncrasies and some fireworks, hehe - oh and some percussion. Basically, Aaron built the cake and I added the icing.

The drums were tracked out of Justin Bonfini's studio, also in Toronto. I've done session work for Justin in the past and he's been involved in some capacity with both of my solo EPs; I recommended him when Aaron mentioned he was trying to pin down a live room for drum tracking.

This record also features Cameron McLellan of Protest The Hero on bass delivering a heroic, motherfucker of a performance.

Notes:
-A sections are played on 14" hats, B sections on open 13s for energy
-1:30 - intro reprise is played variably
-1:55 - ghosts and other orchestrations are added to pattern
-2:25 - 2:34 - kicks in 3 (during build-up) help to set up the metric modulation that permeates the beginning of the last A section
-3:50 - the 6 16th kicks at the end begin with the left foot to enable hi-hat pedaling with the very last hit of the tune (this is more of a recording aspect, for optimal silence)
Note: I goofed during tracking and mistakenly played a snare with the ride bell instead of with the splash cymbal at 0:31 and 3:48. Don't stone me, I had a week to rehearse this record haha.
