Collector’s Argument to the FN 5.7 Pistol

The long and short if it is this: FN has these guns floating all over the market, but in the grand scheme of things not many have been made. When FN finally gives up the ghost on the FN 5.7, their prices will skyrocket. 

As for why? The FN 5.7 “project” is a Cold-War Era weapon program for rear echelon NATO troops to have the firepower and penetration to fight off Russian Spetsnaz (Airborne) troops that will inevitably pop up in the rear. 

NATO was so worried about this problem, they developed entire compact weapon systems (pistol & rifle) to allow support troops to stay fully armed but still able to perform their jobs: truck drivers, artillery, medical, command staff, etc. 

In 2025, viability of the 5.7 is basically zero. We live in a 9mm world and that isn’t going to chance anytime soon. And as soon as FN gets get capacity squeezed with a more lucrative contact, the 5.7 will evaporate off their books as fast the “Peace Dividend”. 

And then the bullshit will really kick into high gear. This same gun everyone ignores today will suddenly become rare and desirable. The mags will be stupid expensive as they dry up. And gun forum dorks will come out of the wood work saying the 5.7 round would stop a brontosaurus while still passing through 3 Spetsnaz troops single file.  

The result? What I consider today to be an $800 gun will skyrocket to $3000 instantly. Which doesn’t mean they are worth 3000. But what it will do is freeze the market. None will transact because everyone “could” have had one for eight back in the day. And folks who possess them at the time of the cancellation will stand on the ole, “I know what I got” speech. 

The music is going to stop on these guns. And if you want a piece of Cold War history, I suggest you pick one up PDQ.
