Wonder Woman was conceived in 1941 by Dr. William Marston, a Harvard psychologist and inventor who also contributed to developing the current lie detector test. Marston had a polyamorous relationship with Olive Byrne, a former pupil who became an academic, and his wife Elizabeth, a psychologist and inventor in her own right. Because Elizabeth and Olive's feminist ideas were implanted in Wonder Woman from the moment she was created, their bond was essential to her formation.
