This was originally filmed as a promo for Chen Huixian's Workshops at the 2010 Legends of Kung Fu and Taiji Legacy in Dallas, Texas.

Workshop # 1:
Chen Taiji Ba Fa: Silk Reeling & Fajin Training Drills for Developing Internal Power

This class will cover the 8 basic movements/energies of Chen Taijiquan, the Taiji Ba Fa (peng, lu, ji, an, cai, lie, zhou, and kao). These are the foundations of Chen Taiji and bridge the gap from Taiji form to combat and self-defense applications. These movements/energies can be found throughout all styles of Taiji, and are essential points of study for any serious Taiji practitioner.

Chen Huixian will also be teaching Si Zheng Shou and Si Yu Shou, the Chen Taiji methods of training these 8 Taiji Ba Fa Energies. These are individual repetitive Silk Reeling and Fajin drills that help to develop Whole Body Movement (Zhou Shen Yun Dong) and also strengthen your Internal Power (Nei Jin). This development of unified body movement, kinetic linkage and strong Internal Energy build the foundations for the relaxed and explosive power that is the trademark of Chen Taijiquan.

Workshop # 2:
Chen Taijiquan Push-Hands: Ding Bu & an Introduction to Qinna Applications

Chen Huixian will cover the Chen Taiji Push-Hands method of Ding Bu and introduce some of the Qinna found within its movements. Often considered the one of the most recognizable methods of the Chen Family Push-Hands training, Ding Bu is also one of more complex methods to learn. In this stage of Push-Hands partners shift weight back and forth without stepping, using vertical and horizontal circular movements of both arms that open and close as your hands alternate contact between both wrists and elbows of your partner. Even the casual observer can recognize the obvious Qinna Applications and Reversals inherent in this two-person set. Workshop participants will work with a partner to learn the Ding Bu method as well as practicing a few of the many Qinna techniques that can be developed from this routine.
