My food on the trail is pretty varied but in this video I go over my backpacking food that I usually go to on a regular basis. I try my best to maintain a good balance between carbs, protein, healthy fats and sugars. I find that for breakfast I like something quick and easy. I outline my typical meals below. I try to manage weight but don't let it rule my choices. Ultralight backpacking food is the end goal but I don't let it determine my tastes.

Breakfasts: Freezer bag oatmeal, granola bars, breakfast bites. My breakfast food reflects how I tend to hike. I like to grab something quick and get onto the trail quickly.

Lunch: I use tortillas a lot for my lunches. Now I realize this isn’t the lightest food but I still continue to stick with it because it’s something I can eat on the go and I like wrapping lots of food together. Peanut butter is also easy to eat on the trail and spreading it on the tortilla is easy for me to do quickly. Something I use for my lunches that I don’t see many backpackers carry are honey sticks. Once again it’s a convenient food and I love that it’s an easy energy boost. (Honey sticks amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...)

Dinner: My go to dinner food on the trail is what I believe is called hiker concrete (ETA: it's actually called a ramen bomb). It starts with instant mashed potatoes in a freezer bag. I then add boiled Ramen noodles (water and all!) to the freezer bag, stir and let it sit. While it sits I slice whatever meat I’ve brought (pepporini, sausage, SPAM). I then add it to the potato and ramen mix and stir again. This makes a calorie dense and delicious mix.

Hopefully this helped give you some backpacking food ideas. As always these ideas can be tweaked it what you eat while out on the trail is pretty personal. I’m certain there are some foods you guys eat on the trail that I wouldn’t touch and vice versa.
