LOS ANGELES – On Sunday, July 7, 2024, Santa Monica Closeup took a tour of the majestic Italian Navy tall ship Amerigo Vespucci at the Port of Los Angeles. The vessel, a historic sailing ship and training vessel for the Italian Navy, has been docked at Berth 46 in the Outer Harbor since July 3 and will remain until July 8.

Visitors to the ship enjoyed free public tours, immersing themselves in the rich maritime history and intricate craftsmanship of the Amerigo Vespucci. Adjacent to the ship, the "Villaggio Italia" offered a taste of Italian culture with its Piazza Italia square featuring daily performances, exhibitions, and culinary delights.

Among the highlights of the six-day event were the thrilling air shows by Frecce Tricolori, the Italian Air Force's National Aerobatic Team, and evening screenings of acclaimed Italian films curated by the Venice Biennale’s Mostra Internazionale del Cinema. Guests also savored exquisite cuisine from Eataly’s “Ristorante Italia,” and enjoyed daily music performances by the Carabinieri’s Fanfara Cadet Team.

The Amerigo Vespucci, currently on a two-year world tour, has already visited 15 countries across three continents. After its stop in Los Angeles, the ship is set to continue its journey to Japan, Australia, India, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
