In this vlog, I am visiting the north of Iraq, exploring the stunning region of Iraqi Kurdistan. This area is truly unique with its own military, laws, and visa system.
Iraqi Kurdistan, also known as Southern Kurdistan, offers a rich tapestry of culture and history, with friendly locals and incredible hospitality. As an American tourist in Iraq, I found the experience both eye-opening and heartwarming.
The issue of Iraqi Kurdistan's status as a country is a complex one that involves political, historical, and cultural factors. One of the main reasons why Iraqi Kurdistan is not recognized as a sovereign country is because it is considered part of Iraq according to international law and the borders recognized by the United Nations.
However, there have been ongoing movements and calls for independence among the Kurdish people, who have their own language, culture, and history, and who have faced persecution and discrimination in Iraq and other countries. The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) of Iraq has a degree of autonomy, but it is still officially part of Iraq and subject to the authority of the central government in Baghdad.
Join me as I explore the vibrant culture, meet friendly locals, and uncover the rich history of Iraqi Kurdistan. Let's embark on this journey together!
-Cheers! 🥂

💭Summary:
In my this video, I take you on an incredible journey through Babylon, a city with deep historical roots in Iraq. Once considered one of the most dangerous places due to religious conflicts, rebel attacks, U.S. invasions, and economic instability, Babylon is now a testament to the resilience and rich history of Iraq.
As I entered this historically significant city, I was amazed to learn about its past as the home of the Sumerian people long before the Islamic era. One of the highlights of my trip was visiting Saddam Hussein's abandoned palace, the largest in Iraq until the U.S. invasion in the early 2000s. Spanning about 700 acres and filled with modern amenities, this palace was a luxurious retreat for Hussein and his inner circle before being occupied by the U.S. military.
