Self-defence training can be life-changing for women — but it’s important to be honest about what it does and does not guarantee.

In this video, I talk openly about women’s self-defence, martial arts training, and the reality of size, strength, and physical differences. While training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or other martial arts can dramatically improve confidence, awareness, decision-making, and physical capability, no system makes anyone invincible.

I explain why even experienced martial artists — men or women, young or old — can sometimes be overpowered by someone with extreme strength, aggression, or physical attributes. That doesn’t mean training is pointless. It means training should be realistic, empowering, and focused on awareness, avoidance, control, and escape whenever possible.

We also talk about why self-defence is not about winning fights, proving toughness, or believing you can dominate every situation. It’s about giving yourself options, improving your ability to stay calm under pressure, and stacking the odds in your favour when things go wrong.
