Once students feel confident with adding or subtracting fractions with like denominators or with unlike denominators, they may come across a problem involving three fractions. In their young minds, it may seem like a completely different problem than adding or subtracting two fractions. They may begin to feel stuck, some might shut down and say "I can't do this" or "I haven't learned this". Help boost their confidence by letting them know to apply what they've learned and practiced about adding or subtracting two fractions to adding or subtracting three fraction. In this video, learn how to explain to students how to add or subtract fractions with three (or more) fractions.
