Raj Dontireddy, a Senior Operations Engineer, came to the NYISO from India, by way of California. An employee of over seven years, he is a man of many passions: travel, outdoor sports, cricket and the math and engineering skills required to help keep the electricity grid functioning.

When he first learned what the NYISO does, he wanted in. "It was mind-blowing, the energy markets and how they interact with each other, " he says. "I wanted to be part of it."

Today, he performs studies on the properties of the transmission system, running various models to determine how the grid will perform during summer and winter peak periods to help with generation scheduling. It sounds complicated, but Dontireddy compares it to Google Maps: finding the best route to a destination. "It changes everyday," he says. "You've got to find different solutions for different problems. That's what keeps it interesting for me."
