Wedged between the Great Sandy Desert to the north and the Little Sandy Desert to the south, Karlamilyi is the largest National Park in Western Australia and one of the most remote in the country.

Karlamilyi is the name given by the indigenous Martu people to the Rudall River that cuts across the National Park, hence the former name of Rudall River National Park that was in place before the area was renamed in 2008.
