20% of India’s population is projected to be elderly by 2050 and will outnumber those below 15 years of age. Ageing is a natural phenomenon which affects individuals and society in different ways. The Family Welfare Agency (FWA) is a social organization established in 1950. FWA has been a pioneer in grass root level work with the elderly since 1979 in Mumbai.
FWA focus on the well-being of the elderly and address the various challenges which arise through community need based services. The FWA direct services emphasis is on health care - physical, mental and social levels as well as rights and entitlements of the elderly, recreation, awareness, personal and family interrelationships, intergeneration interactions and developing community elderly support groups. FWA supports research, awareness and training, as well as networking and advocacy for the cause of senior citizens.
FWA work in Lower Parel, Dharavi over many years, and could expand the care of the elderly programme to areas of GTB nagar and Sewri with the support of NSE Foundation (2016 -2019).
