Welcome back to the channel on today’s video. I’m gonna show you three power tools that you only need as a plumber.

For about 12 to 14 years of me being a plumber I’ve actually only used three power tools throughout my whole career to get all my plumbing jobs done. It wasn’t till recent but I’ve been able to change over to a full cordless system and expand my range depending on the jobs that I’ve been doing But for a very long time I even had corded versions of these tools which done me very well for many years.

There’s a lot of power tools out there, especially if you’re an apprentice and you’re getting your tool kit up. There can be many choices and impulse by that you do when really I would suggest to focus on these three types and only expand when you can as for me, I believe that handles are far more important than power tools.

The first on my list is a Combi drill now this is very simple, but I can do everything that we need as a plumber. You don’t need an impact driver that can be too powerful. The plumber you screw him into clips and eclipse just snap away and the screw is getting embedded inside if you’re doing it up ceramic Fixtures then the last thing you wanna do is using an impact driver so I always found that a Combi drill was perfect for me. I like to use a hex adapter into the front end of my drill which converted it from a truck to the hex adapter type so I can use all the hex bits as this saves me using my Combi drill truck, which will make it last a lot longer. For a plumber, we normally use a Combi drill for drilling holes for clips doing up screws drilling through holes whether that be whole saws for wastes etc or spade bits through joists. If you can only afford one type of drill, I would always recommend a combi drill.

Second on the list is a multitool. These things are absolutely genius the one that I’m showing off is from a company called fein. These were the actually original makers of the multitool. As plumbers we normally use a multitool for cutting up floorboards chipboard and also bathroom fixtures so if you got a vanity unit that you need closer to the wall you can obviously cut out the cut out needed and also the skirting board flush I don’t know how people did this back in the old days using a wood saw as I always found that it was super easy to Scagg up the wall so multitool helps get that job done super fast. When cutting free floor joists and timbers you can gauge it really easily as you can feel when it goes loose obviously means that you’ve gone through so you can keep the same depth as you cutting all along the boards with no risk of going too fast through and eventually hitting a pipe.

Last of everyone on the list is an SDS drill now I mainly use an SDS drill for drilling long holes through walls for like outside taps, et cetera and also any really hard bricks sometimes you come across some engineering bricks and a Combi drill on hammer just isn’t enough for it. An SDS seems to flow through superfast and you also have a chisel option so if you need to do a lot of chasing then obviously you need a STS drill for that.  I like to use an SDS for coal drilling so whether I’m drilling out for a toilet or a boiler flu which could be 4 to 5 inches maybe even more an SDS drill has ever functions on it where you don’t have to use hammer you can just use the screw option but it has enough power to get these cool holes done and I’m still using my corded version as sometimes you need to be drilled for a fair amount of hours and swapping in and out batteries just isn’t effective.

So that’s my three power tools that you only need as a plumber like I said you can go out and waste your money on fancy things but most of the time it’s just not needed so just make sure that you’ve got good versions of these three and you should be able to do most jobs as a plumber.
