This is a short talk on arrays and vectors in C++. It assumes that you know basic C++ syntax.
First, we look at general memory allocation and using an integer variable. Then we look at arrays and how they are indexed. We also use a loop to output the contents of the array. The code to do the same thing is then used on a vector. The differences between the vector and array code is then contrasted side-by-side to show the equivalence.
Some vector-specific functionality is then explored - such as push_back to dynamically allocate memory and size to report on the current number of elements in the vector. Next, iterators are highlighted to show the usage of two other member functions: erase - which removes an element pointed to by an iterator, and insert - which inserts an element at a specific point in a vector.
The video concludes with three simple programs that you can write to explore vector usage. I suggest strongly that you do these before coming to the next lab session as it may make the problem set that you are attempting a little easier.
