We visited the Orang Utan Island located within Bukit Merah Lake Town, which is actually a resort and water park area. From the jetty, it was just a short 10-minute boat ride across the lake and it was smooth, breezy, and scenic!

Since we arrived early in the morning, most of the orangutans were still taking their time to wake up. The rangers were calling them by name (yes, they actually know each one!). There are currently 15 orangutans on the island, with the oldest being Adam, aged 22.

We met Manu, a playful 10-year-old and son of the “King” orangutan, as well as Baboon and her adorable 2-year-old infant, Orkid. We didn’t get to see the whole clan, but we did encounter a cheeky little orangutan who was happily swinging and playing in his element and they truly remind you how similar they are to humans.

Overall, it was a pleasant and educational experience peaceful, close to nature, and worth the trip.

💡 Tips:
Bring insect repellent, a portable hand fan, and a water bottle because it can get pretty hot under the sun!
