The HBX Thruster comes with pretty stunning features taking the price into consideration! Mind you, this is an 100% Ready-to-Run model that costs less than most of the entry-level assembly kits from Tamiya etc.
The HBX Thruster is not a high end performance RC, but instead a model that can be viewed as an affordable entry-level hobby-grade model. Parts supply, now and in the future, will probably never reach the level of high end RC models. Another issue is the compatibility of the electronics. This comes with non standard servos/plugs/batteries and a 2-in-1 ESC/Receiver. All something that should be taken into consideration before a purchase.
Full ball bearings, oil filled shocks, metal parts, 2-speed transmission, 6 x LEDs, full proportional 2.4 GHz 3-channel radio control and a design similar to "real" RC Rock Racers is just not something commonly found in this price range.
I cannot help but think back to the 1980s. Back then, youngsters (like myself) could have a lot of fun with a well designed small "Grasshopper" from Taiyo or a Nikko, without having to spend a lot of money on a "real" Grasshopper from Tamiya. Today youngsters can have a lot of fun with an HBX Thruster without having to spend a lot of money on a "real" Rock racer from Axial, Losi etc.
A closer look and a test run (on rocks!) coming up very soon!
I would love to hear your opinion about the HBX Thruster! Below you can find selected specifications. Check out my channel for many more models from HBX, Tamiya, Traxxas and others.
