Emma Raducanu has been granted wildcards for her last three tournaments, sparking debate among tennis fans. Many believe she should no longer receive automatic entries into events.Since returning from injury at the start of 2024, the British No. 2 has received 13 wildcards. Currently ranked No. 61 in the world, her ranking falls short of qualifying for smaller tournament draws.Raducanu’s recent appearances have all come via wildcard invitations. She initially received a wildcard for the Abu Dhabi Open’s qualifying rounds in late January but was later upgraded to the main draw due to withdrawals. Following that, she secured wildcards for WTA 1000 events in Doha and Dubai.Despite these opportunities, Raducanu has struggled to capitalize on them. She suffered first-round exits in Abu Dhabi and Doha before reaching the second round in Dubai.A poll conducted by Express Sport revealed that 71% of tennis fans believe she should no longer be awarded wildcards. However, Raducanu expressed gratitude for the invitations she has received.I’m really appreciative and grateful for all the wildcards I’ve been given over the past few weeks. I just wanted to fight and give my best,” she told The National.Raducanu credited her support team, including mentor Jane O’Donoghue and fitness trainer Yutaka Nakamura, for their encouragement. “Their belief in me never wavers, even when mine does at times,” she added.
