Beethoven Fantasia in G minor & Sonata No. 24 in F-sharp major. Played by Rudolf Serkin (1949)

Описание к видео Beethoven Fantasia in G minor & Sonata No. 24 in F-sharp major. Played by Rudolf Serkin (1949)

This very early Columbia LP featuring Rudolf Serkin (1903-1990) has held up well. Even the jacket looks close to new despite being 75 years old. The Beethoven Fantasia in C is not a piece I recall hearing before, and does not sound like the typical Beethoven composition to me. The Sonata, however, is much more Beethoven-esque. The sonata is nicknamed "à Thérèse" and was reportedly one of Beethoven's favorites. The LP has a small bit of wavering (wow) but I don't think it detracts from Rudolf Serkin's excellent performances. Serkin was considered one of the best interpreters of Beethoven during his 68 year performing career.
