Mangalorean sprouted moong / Padengi Gassi Recipe is a delicious and simple gravy whereas Sprouted Moong and potatoes are cooked in a rich gravy made of coconut, roasted spices, onion, garlic and tamarind. For Mangalorean Hindus, this is a must have recipe for festivals and occasions.

Rice and a coconut curry are everyday lunch and dinner in most Mangalorean households. Call it a staple food, a common man’s food.

I personally prefer the coconut-based curries as I find them to be more delicious. We Mangalorean love to use coconut in everything and anything. Most of our vegetarian recipes are coconut based Also, the use of coconut ensures that you get sufficient gravy, as back then families were large and many mouths to feed.
