At the dawn of the new Millennium Pepsi was stuck in a slump as soda sales had stagnated all across the board. In a desperate situation, they put their eggs in one basket on a new Mountain Dew flavor. Maybe you've heard of it.

Mountain Dew Code Red is a soda flavor that maintains its popularity today, but its creation and success has led to the creation of several other flavors. There would likely be no Baja Blast, Livewire or Voltage without Code Red. This was not only a drink that took America by storm when it was released in 2001, but it was something that effected my high school experience... literally. As an underclassman in high school our vending machines were stocked with Code Red when they day opened and often sold out before 10:00 a.m. If you were cool in 2001, you got to the vending machine and scored yourself a Code Red before the others had a chance.

That's what this video focuses on: the remarkable success of Mountain Dew Code Red along with a few personal stories from my high school days when this soda hit the scene. Enjoy!
