The Missouri Department of Conservation received a phone call from a concerned citizen. According to the report, the citizen saw seven men walking down the Huzzah Creek with coolers and spearguns that they were using to shoot smallmouth bass. As the agent approached, he saw one man throwing a cast net and another carrying a smallmouth bass on the spear of a gun.

In the end, all 7 individuals were charged with taking game fish by spear fishing and being in possession of a speargun on unimpounded waters or adjacent banks. The spearguns and cast net were all seized as evidence. Based on the documentation provided to us by the state, it appears all individuals involved pled guilty to the charges. They each paid $299 in fines and received a total of 20 points on their licenses. In the state of Missouri, accumulating more than 16 points can be grounds for suspending fishing privileges for over one year.
