Bleeding after delivery, also known as postpartum bleeding or lochia, is a normal and natural part of the postpartum period. It occurs as the body undergoes changes to return to its pre-pregnancy state. There are three main stages of postpartum bleeding:

1. *Lochia Rubra (Days 1-3):* This is the initial stage, and the bleeding is typically bright red, resembling the menstrual flow. It consists of blood, tissue, and mucous from the uterus.

2. *Lochia Serosa (Days 4-10):* During this stage, the bleeding becomes lighter and changes in color to a pink or brownish hue. The discharge may also contain serous fluid.

3. *Lochia Alba (After 10 days):* This is the final stage, and the discharge usually lightens further to a yellow or white color. It can persist for several weeks after childbirth.

It's important to note that the amount and duration of postpartum bleeding can vary from woman to woman. However, heavy or prolonged bleeding may indicate a potential issue, such as postpartum hemorrhage, and should be promptly addressed by a healthcare professional. Women are advised to use sanitary pads instead of tampons during this time to reduce the risk of infection. Monitoring and proper postpartum care are essential to ensure a healthy recovery for the mother.
