Got to be honest, I've never owned waders before. I actually have very little experience with them. Well I have a trip up north planned for this summer. They will have waders to borrow but I am not the average build of a man. I doubt they would have any that fit me. So I decided its time to find a pair that fits and I did!

I have a thick torso, big chest but my legs are not the longest. When I found the Stout line of waders at Cabelas I knew they would be the best bet for finding a fit. According to the sizing chart I was somewhere between XL and XXL. My chest was 1" larger than the XL but if I moved up to XXL the inseam would be too long. So, I had to try them on before buying. I was in Winnipeg, Manitoba and drove over to the Cabelas store. I tried on the last pair of XL they had in stock and they fit! There was actually a little extra in the chest.

While i was there I looked for size 11 wading boots since these waders were not booted, they were stocking foot. They didn't have any wading boots in size 11! Which I found odd because Winnipeg is a city close to a million people in size. Then I went to the Cabelas website, they didn't even have matching boots in size 11 available online! I went to Amazon and there was a whole line of Frogg Togg boots in all sizes available. So I simply went for those.

I did catch a fish this day but it really was more about testing the waders and building confidence in them. They kept me dry at least this day. I know there will be many adventures in these waders and many fish will be caught wading. I already have plans to use them around home.

Anyway if you are researching new waders and, like me, have a hard time finding sizes that fit properly give Cabelas a chance. I can't guarantee they will last a long time but initial qualify seems excellent. You will get mixed reviews on every pair of waders no matter what the brand or how much they cost, they all eventually leak. Sometimes it is only after a few trips, sometimes you get a few years.
