In the early years of the 8th century, The Monastery of the Holy Virgin Theotokos was purchased by Syrian merchants from Cairo, Egypt for use by Syrian monks. They baptized this place by naming it Monastery of the Holy Virgin of the Syrians. The 10th century became a period of prosperity for this monastery, which is when the prophetic Door of Symbols came into being.
