Flipkart Open Box Delivery SCAM! The Open Box Delivery by Flipkart is an excellent measure towards preventing frauds. But now scammers have found a way to use it to their advantage, and to loot unsuspecting customers.

This is how Open Box Delivery works:

1. The delivery guy hands you a package.
2. You open the package and check the contents in the presence of the delivery guy.
3. Once satisfied, you provide the OTP to the delivery guy to complete the order.

This is what scammers do instead (from my understanding):

1. Delivery associate’s scammer friend poses as the delivery associate, and brings the package to your home.
2. He asks for the delivery PIN before handing over the package, and claims that he’s not allowed to hand you the package before getting the PIN.
3. Once the receiver (you) shares the PIN, the scammer sends the PIN to the delivery associate, and the associate marks the order as delivered.
4. The scammer leaves immediately, and the receiver (you) goes inside to open the package, but soon realise that you have received something else instead of the actual product in the package (like a soap bar instead of iPhone).
5. The receiver gets in touch with Flipkart, but to no avail (since it’s an open box delivery).
6. The scammer partner and the delivery associate get away with the theft of an iPhone.

How to save yourself from such scams?

The biggest weapon that such scammers deploy is a sense of urgency. In an urgent state of mind, the person being scammed does not have the time or the space to think properly and make a good decision. And the hastily made decision sadly becomes a financial loss for the person.
