The President of the Cypriot House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, has reaffirmed Cyprus’s strong support for an India–EU FTA, calling India “a very important ally.” Speaking on the sidelines of her visit to Delhi, Demetriou said Cyprus — as a long-time EU member — would “assist in every possible way” to finalise the deal, believing it would benefit both India and Europe. She also underscored Cyprus’s commitment to enhanced bilateral cooperation in shipping, trade, education and connectivity via the India–Mediterranean Economic Cooperation (IMEC) framework, and suggested that “very soon” there could be positive developments. Demetriou described the coming period as ideal for elevated strategic collaboration between India and Cyprus.
