Chad provides a lesson on Relativistic Velocity, Momentum, and Energy. The lesson begins with a review of relative velocity from a Galilean perspective. But an object's relative velocity cannot exceed the speed of light, and for objects with velocities approaching the speed of light, relativistic effects must be factored in using an equation often termed the Relativistic Addition of Velocities. This equation is introduced with the variables all defined and then used in solving an example problem.
Momentum and energy from a relativistic perspective are presented next. Once again, for objects with speeds approaching the speed of light, the classical definitions of momentum and energy are not sufficient and their more complex relativistic counterparts are used. The relativistic formulas for total energy, rest energy (E=mc^2), and kinetic energy are presented along with mass-energy equivalence. The rest energy of an electron is calculated to conclude the lesson.
