Airbus Helicopters has officially introduced the H140, its newest three-ton, light twin-engine helicopter, at the European Rotors exhibition in Cologne. Designed for HEMS, passenger transport, and executive aviation, the H140 offers a spacious, modular cabin suitable for stretchers and intensive-care equipment, making it especially attractive for medical rescue missions.
Performance & Safety
Powered by a 700 hp Safran Arrius 2E engine with FADEC, the H140 delivers leading payload, range, and reliability in its class. Airbus plans to build four prototypes, with the first already in testing in Germany.
Sales begin in 2026, with first deliveries expected in 2028. Pricing has not yet been released but is described as competitive.
Strong Market Demand
The launch generated immediate interest, resulting in 64 confirmed orders, including:
Metro Aviation (USA) – Up to 36 H140s (largest single order), EMS configuration.
Global Medical Response (GMR, USA) – 10 firm orders with options for 5 more.
DRF Luftrettung (Germany) – 10 H140s as part of its fleet renewal, converting its earlier Letter of Intent.
ADAC Luftrettung (Germany) & ÖAMTC Flugrettung (Austria) – 5 units each, making them key launch customers. Additionally, ADAC Luftrettung will acquire three H135s and one H145.
STAT MedEvac (USA) – Up to 3 H140s to support fleet expansion.
Key Design Features
The H140 introduces several upgrades, including:
A new T-shaped tail boom
A covered Fenestron tail rotor for reduced noise
A five-blade, bearingless main rotor that simplifies maintenance and enhances efficiency

It is my aim to prepare a historical data sheet of any helicopters ever produced since 1946 till today, except for home builds and microlights. It includes the manufacturer's construction / serial number (MSN), current and past registration, type and upgrades of version, year of construction, current location, country, owner/operator, and operator's address/ contact details when wanted.
To make this database comprehensive, I am always on the lookout for more helicopter enthusiasts worldwide hew will let me display their helicopter photographs including their names for copyright no matter of quality. In exchange for helicopter photographs, the photographer gets access to my helicopter database which contains more than 108.000 different helicopters. If interested, please send me an email.
