US News: What Is Delta Force, Elite Special Forces Unit That Captured Nicolas Maduro From Venezuela

US carried out a major military operation in Venezuela. President Trump confirmed that Nicolas Maduro and his wife were captured and flown out of the country. The mission was carried out by Delta Force, the US military's top special mission unit. Founded in 1977, and based at Fort Bragg, Delta Force is one of the most elite and secretive units in the world. It operates under the US Army Special Operations Command. It is also known as 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (1st SFOD-D). Its structure is modeled after the British SAS, which inspired Delta's founder, Colonel Charles Beckwith. The unit specializes in high-risk, high-value missions and is primarily tasked with counter terrorism operations hostage rescue, elimination and special reconnaissance. The unit is also trained in close protection for high-value individuals and unconventional warfare. The operators are skilled in sniping, close quarters combat, explosives, and covert entry techniques. They are trained to handle operations on aircraft, trains, ships and vehicles that enable them to intervene and take control of any scenario in any environment.
