🧵 How to Dye Denim Fabric with Rit Dye: Step-by-Step

1. Wash your fabric in warm soapy water
→ This removes any coatings or finishes that might block dye absorption
→ Squeeze out excess water before dyeing

2. Prepare your dye bath!
→ Fill a large pot with warm water — about 3 gallons per pound of fabric
→ Heat the water to 140°F (60°C).
→ Add 1 cup of salt and 1 teaspoon of dish detergent
→ Pour in Rit fabric dye. Use 1 bottle for every 2 pounds of fabric

3. Submerge your fabric into the dye bath
→ For a lighter wash, remove after 4–5 minutes
→ For a darker tone, leave in up to 30 minutes

4. Rinse the fabric in cool water until the water runs clear

5. Let the fabric dry completely, then through a washing machine cycle to help lock in color and remove wrinkles
