Today was to try the slurry lather method with Spearhead's Seaforth base (20.1), which is excellent. Worked great, as expected.
I also wanted to show off a new purchase, a 12 USD Baili BT171 razor from AliExpress. I think it's a great purchase for any shaver, pro or noob. Such smoothness at such a low price. Sometimes folks can't afford a stainless steel or brass razor, and some don't have access to ebay, so AliExpress, and this razor I think is a great option.
I also discuss some untruths that Vikings Blade has on their site on the Godfather page, which I believe is the same head as this razor. They say the Godfather, an alloy razor, will last forever, when we all know it just won't.
I also discuss their pretty restrictive return/warranty program.
Razor: Baili - BD171

Post: Barrister and Mann - Diamond
Razor and Blade Notes - Baili - BD171 ::: Gillette - 365 (2 uses):
Great combo today. This razor is maybe the cheapest razor that holds the blade so well right near the edge.
Results in a smooth, controlled shave, that was also easily efficient enough to take down 3-4 days of growth on the first pass.
The razor does have a small window of usable shaving angle that's especially noticed on the third pass, where your technique really needs to be on point. But I think beginners would be wise to learn to use it, and I don't think it would take too long.
Razor and Blade Performance/Comfort Rating: 4 out of 5 (Very Good)
Soap Notes - Spearhead Shaving Co - Seaforth: Sea Spice Lime:
Them: A creation "of Shawn Maher (of Maher Olfactory & Chatillon Lux) for Spearhead Shaving. Taking the scent first launched in 1966 for Seaforth's next generation of wet shavers, Shawn crafted a crisp, modern aroma great for warm weather. Notes of juicy lime combine with salty ocean and cedarwood with hints of coriander, pink pepper, and bay. Notes of Tahitian lime, bergamot, sea spray, coriander, pink pepper, and oakmoss."
Scent: Very lime forward, and not much else, when sniffing the dry tub.
Later as a lather, the spicy notes came out and were much more a part of the experience. I could easily use this daily, though it is a bit peppy for folks like me who often shave at the end of the day, all drowsy and stuff.
Scent Strength: 6/10, nicely present during shaving.
Lather: Nice slurry lather today. Kinda mature by the second pass, so had to add a touch of water to third, but very slick all the way through. This base from Spearhead is great with the Slurry Method.
Hydration: Perfect (for me)
= 3 passes of lather
Bowl: No Bowl
Brush Notes - Semogue - Owner's Club Taj (102 uses):
Did just fine with the slurry lather today. Maybe could have used a little less shaking at the start to preserve more water, but it was fine.
*Shave Quality*
During the Shave Feel:
Cheeks: Felt blade but comfortable
Neck: Felt blade but comfortable
After the Shave Closeness:
Cheeks: Near BBS - About as close as I'll ever get
Neck: Cut flush to where I just see the tips (above average for me)
I'm gradually adding answers to frequent questions here: http://www.sugardaddyshaves.com
Wetshaving is the age-old shaving method where you create a lather from a soap or cream, usually with a brush. And these days, we also usually mean using a safety razor (aka double edge or DE) or single edge or straight razor to remove the hair. We often enjoy less irritated skin, healthier skin, more enjoyable shaves, and often closer shaves than those who use a multi-bladed cartridge and canned shaving foam.
