In this second overview video of the giant MOTU castle series we focus on the Mattel toy playset exterior features cutting all the foam with our DIY foam cutter, attaching the large foam blocks together, and carving the project using several different tools for sculpting foam. Some of our favorites accessories are rasps, files, rifflers, curry combs, hand saws, keyhole saws, sandpaper, wire brushes, and homemade nail brushes just to name a few. We will try and base the design off the look of Castle Grayskull in the early Alfredo Alcala Masters of the Universe comics and the original sculpt for the prototype by Mark Taylor. We started with the legendary castle towers by framing the wood structure then attached white bead foam Styrofoam with Great Stuff expanding foam and started carving the rock shapes. Once the sculpture is finished the plan is to hard coat the giant skull with fiberglass. We will incorporate a few action features he can interact with his action figures and the castle. We may even try to make the interior based off the Mattel toy playset. The paint scheme will try to stay close to the original toy line from the 80s and Grayskull the origins custom Grayskulls. We even thought about adding a feature like the evil Horde slime pit Masters of the Universe Mattel playset. That way he can play with ooze some where in the castle. We may even take a few inspirations from the He-Man animation and he-man and the masters of the universe tv program cartoon episodes. We also had fun re-creating an old 80s Snake Mountain toy TV commercial. Join us as we try to capture the true Spirit of Grayskull and solve all the many mysteries behind the making of this epic build.
