Which whiskey is the best for a whiskey sour?

This is a relatively simple question, but one which can cause a lot of debate as people will argue over the best whiskey sour recipe, or the best whiskey for a whiskey sour. So, today, I’m going to put it to the test by making three whiskey sours, with the same recipe and the only difference being the whiskey. I’m going to make a bourbon whiskey sour, a scotch whiskey sour and an Irish whiskey sour.

For the whiskeys, I have chosen Wild Turkey 81, Cardhu 12, and Jameson Crested, because they are good representations of the three styles of whiskey, but also come in at the same alcohol percentage, so the only difference will be the core flavour of each whiskey.

My recipe for a classic whiskey sour is fairly simple:

60ml Whiskey
30ml Lemon Juice
30ml Sugar Syrup
1 Egg White
2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
1 Dash Orange Bitters

Shake with ice, and strain into a chilled glass
