Welcome to the second webinar on biopotentials! In the last session, we covered the basics of electrical potentials and action potentials in excitable tissues like nerves and muscles. Today, we'll focus on electromyography (EMG) and the electrical activity of skeletal muscles.
Key Takeaways:
1. Motor Neurons: Skeletal muscles are innervated by motor neurons, which carry signals from the brain to the muscles.
2. Motor End-Plate Potential (MEP): This is the action potential generated at the neuromuscular junction when acetylcholine is released by the motor neuron.
3. EMG: Electromyography records the electrical activity of muscles. It helps distinguish between neuropathic and myopathic causes of muscle weakness.
By the end of this session, you'll understand how muscles are excited, the differences between motor end-plate potentials and motor unit action potentials, and how to interpret EMG findings.
If you have any questions, type them in the chat, and I will address them during the session.
