What Was The Very First CD? : Compact Disc Collecting

Описание к видео What Was The Very First CD? : Compact Disc Collecting

Have you ever wondered what was the very first CD ever released? 2022 marks the 40 year anniversary of the compact disc, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to look at this question.

Many people will often say that Billy Joel's "52nd Street" was the first album to be released on CD. Well, this is partially true. Watch the video to find the complete answer. This CD was actually one of many released on the same day.

As I have mentioned in previous videos, there does seem to be a lot of talk these days about a CD comeback. It does seem that CD sales have definitely gone up in recent years. Are you a big fan of CDs? Do you still buy them? Or do you think the whole CD comeback is nonsense?

It does seem that many formats never truly go away completely. Vinyl sales have been through the roof over recent years. And we have also been hearing a lot about a cassette comeback. I am sure a major factor for this is nostalgia.

I certainly recall the first CD that I ever bought. It was a German pressing of "The Lexicon of Love" by ABC. I still have that CD tucked away somewhere.

In the video I also talk about the first CD ever manufactured in the USA, as well as the first CD to sell a million copies.

Do you remember the first CD you ever bought? What was it? Do you still have it? Do you recall what you paid for ir? Leave a comment!
