The public response to this song written by George F. Root in 1862 during the American Civil War was immediate and spread through the Union troops. One measure of its success was lyrics written for the Confederate troops to enjoy as well. This beautiful duet was arranged for the mountain dulcimer by Larry Conger. It is performed slowly and deliberately on a Gallier Starsong and Blue Lion mountain dulcimers.
