As "Fire Season" becomes routine in California, we must take a look at what our communities have learned about rebuilding and healing from trauma, this award winning short film, After the Fire (Big Sky Festival 2019, Thin Line 2019, Cleveland International Film Festival 2019, If/Then Grant Award winner) Directed by. Derek Knowles & Spencer Seibert

In October of 2017, the most destructive fires in U.S history descend into Sonoma Valley. When the flames are finally extinguished, ordinary Sonomans return home to take stock. A sculptor sees his entire way of life changed in an instant when his home and studio are destroyed. A lifetime Sonoman struggles to help his ailing father whose health is compromised by lingering smoke brought on by the fire. A Latina restaurant worker and mother of two loses her only source of income as tourism halts after the disaster. AFTER THE FIRE is a testament to these individuals’ quiet strength as they pick up the pieces and seek to understand the ways their community has been changed overnight by natural disaster.
