Torre de Cerro Gordo

The Cerro Gordo Tower, also known as the Herradura or Nogal Tower, is a truncated cone-shaped coastal watchtower built between the end of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century, although in an area where there was previously another from the Nasrid period, in the municipality of Almuñécar, province of Granada (Andalusia, Spain). It is located on the cape or Punta de Cerro Gordo, on the western side of the bay of La Herradura, within the natural park of the Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo, attached to the eastern limit of the same.1​2​

Description
It is located at the end of the Punta de Cerro Gordo, which closes the inlet of La Herradura to the west, and is accessed from the old national road that passes through the surroundings. It was built in the 16th century, and has a truncated cone shape with a very slight slope and a circular plan, 7.30 meters in diameter. It is mounted on a leveling platform with an apparent claw. It is built with masonry of medium-sized stones, alternating every two rows with a course of flagstones. It is 10.50 metres high and contains remains of external plastering made of lime mortar.
