Welcome back to The Obi Project: From Antique to Modern! In this episode, we’re creating a tablet sleeve (12" x 9") using the same antique Japanese obi silk we’ve been transforming throughout the series.

This sleeve is beginner-friendly, machine sewn, and finished with a Velcro closure. For a unique touch, I’m adding a decorative antique pin to mark the closure spot — making each sleeve truly one of a kind. Sized to fit most standard tablets, it’s practical for daily use while still showcasing the beauty of vintage Japanese textiles.

I’ll walk you through the process in real time with very little editing, so it feels like we’re working together at the same table. By the end, you’ll see how easy it can be to upcycle antique fabric into something useful, elegant, and modern.
