You can help spread the word that ‘It’s normal and beneficial when pregnant to self-learn birth and coaching skills then use your skills to work through your baby’s birth”. Each of our births are important to each of us. We can all be skilled to birth no matter the circumstances.

When I gave birth in 1970s in the US, fathers were finally permitted to come into labor and delivery ... although not a cesarean.

At the same time, the VERY FIRST Childbirth Preparation classes were being taught: Lamaze and The Bradley Method (Husband-coached childbirth). These were ENTIRELY SKILLS-BASED.

In other words, we learned skills together and used them together. Our husband/other was our 'birth coach' and they helped us cope, manage, work through, deal with, handle, stay on top of and feel in control throughout labor and delivery as best they could.

And we LOVED their help! Then by the 1980s, fathers were reduced to 'birth support' because a new Childbirth Trend arose ... a Choice-based/Birth Plans approach.

Skills stopped being taught.

Our New Zealand registered not-for-profit educational Charitable Trust www.commonknowledgetrust.org holds all the birth and birth coaching skills hundreds of fathers and mothers developed and used for absolutely ALL BIRTHS.

One of our newest online birthing classes is specifically for fathers-to-be/others who will be the birth-coach! If you're going to be at a birth know how to help the woman feel empowered by using skills.
