Uncertain how to teach all the different ways hyphens can be used? Twinkl teacher Ingrid has a fantastic three-part lesson series for you which explores the seven different reasons why we use hyphens and gives students plenty of opportunities to practice, perfect for upper key stage two, these videos are really accessible as all that students will need is a piece of paper and a pencil in this first lesson. Ingrid explains what hyphens are and seven different circumstances in which they are used. By the end of the lesson students will understand how to use hyphens to make words and writing clear so you can see that just by using this little horizontal line the word means something almost completely opposite. There are a number of activities throughout to help consolidate children's understanding as they learn all about the different ways hyphens help us. Lesson 2 provides plenty of practice in identifying why hyphens are used and how to use them to clarify meaning. There are options for students to work both with and without the optional activity pack. Hi everybody it's Ingrid from Twinkl and in today's lesson we're going to be learning about hyphens. In this third and final lesson children learn how to avoid ambiguity when writing using hyphens. There are plenty of activities to help children really consolidate all the learning they've done. Throughout the lesson series as you can see children build on prior knowledge both within each lesson and throughout the lesson series so that by the end of the three lessons they can feel really confident using hyphens correctly in their writing. These video lessons can be used as a whole class.
