In Autumn 2020, we started rehearsing in Q-Park on First Street – a multi-storey car park near HOME in Manchester. It was a creative way of getting the choir back together, in person. We were working towards a special, immersive winter performance when we went into the second national lockdown in November.


As a result, we had to make the difficult decision to postpone that winter performance – and we were unsure whether we would be able to come back together as a choir and sing in the colder months of December.


We wanted to deliver a meaningful project to wrap up 2020, but the temperature, the challenging environment for recording, and the sheer uncertainty of the world meant we had to reconsider what we were able to create in such a short space of time.

We decided to commission a poem from Joshua Val Martin – a local writer and former performer with the choir – to reflect on what has been a life-changing year for almost everyone, documenting this strange period in our lives in an unusual venue that has become the choir’s home during this period.


This video, recorded on location at First Street Q-Park on 20th December by videographer Chris Payne, features Joshua reading his poem 'Summer's gonna come again' with backing by The Sunday Boys.


We don’t know when we will perform for you again live, but we are optimistic that this summer will be far more normal than 2020.
