Melbourne, Australia has been crowned as the world’s most liveable city for an unprecedented 6th year in a row, topping the Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) Global Liveability Index.

The EIU's Liveability Ranking assesses living conditions in 140 cities across the globe by assigning a rating across five broad categories, including: stability; healthcare; culture and environment; education; and infrastructure.

The top five most liveable cities in the world are Melbourne, Vienna, Vancouver, Toronto and in equal fifth place Adelaide and Calgary.

Melbourne has consistently appeared in the top five cities since the ranking's inception in 2002, and has taken out the top spot in the index for the past six years in a row.
