In August of 2022 I decided my first backpacking trip - ever - should be on Isle Royale! Day 3 was one for the memory banks! The day started with a pre-sunrise visit from one of the island's majestic moose, and concluded with a perfect lakeside campsite. From Hatchet Lake to the West Chickenbone Lake campground, Isle Royale was just showing off! Nearly two hours with a moose, a blue racer snake, and a snowshoe hare, and I was one spoiled backpacker.
